Everything you need to qualify — credit score, income, documents, and the invite requirement explained.
Bread Financial’s personal loan (Bread Loans) is available only to invited customers — specifically former or current Bread Pay or Comenity cardholders. Our marketplace offers comparable loans with no invite required.
US citizen or permanent resident with valid SSN and current US mailing address.
At least 18 years old at time of application (19 in some states).
Regular income — employment, self-employment, Social Security, pension, or other verifiable sources.
Active US checking account required for direct deposit of approved loan funds.
Bread Financial does not publish a minimum credit score. Based on their near-prime focus, here is what borrowers typically experience at each score tier:
Bread Financial accepts all verifiable income sources. Your gross annual income from all of the following counts toward qualification:
W-2 employment — full-time, part-time, or seasonal. Provide recent pay stubs.
Freelance, contract, or business income. Typically verified with tax returns or bank statements.
Social Security retirement or disability benefits count as qualifying income.
Pension or retirement fund distributions are accepted as regular qualifying income.
Documented rental income from investment properties counts toward your gross income.
Dividends, interest, and other documented investment income may be included.
Have these ready before starting. The application takes ~5 minutes when documents are prepared.
Driver’s license, state ID, or US passport. Must be current, unexpired, and government-issued.
Full 9-digit SSN required for identity verification and credit evaluation. All lenders require this.
Recent pay stubs (last 30 days), W-2, most recent tax return, or 2–3 months of bank statements. Self-employed: 12 months of bank statements or tax returns.
Employer name, address, and phone. If self-employed: business name and industry. Not required for retirees or Social Security recipients.
Checking account routing number and account number for direct deposit of approved loan funds.
Full mailing address. If you’ve moved in the past two years, have your previous address ready. PO Boxes alone are not accepted.
